Sam started rowing at the age of 14 at the Dart Totnes Amateur Rowing Club. He won numerous area championships, and became a qualified coach for both his school and his club at the young age of 16. He then went on to university where he rowed at a costal rowing club for 4 years. Upon graduation, Sam joined a UK boat manufacturer running the repairs department, and eventually began sales of new boats.
While Sam's rowing acheivments include both sprint and head race titles, he's always preferred racing long distance head races. Some of his accolades include top ten finishes in the Vesta Scullers race, wins at the Head of the River Race, and the fastest sculler (and record holder at the time) of the Boston Rowing Marathon, completing 31 miles in 3 hours and 50 minutes. He's also won medals at the 2010 and 2011 home international regatta in England.
